Leslie Steadman, a 7th grade student at Bayou Academy, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee and a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship. The school-level Bee was the first round in the 21st annual National Geographic Bee. The school winners nation-wide will now take a written test to be eligible to compete in their state Bee April 3, 2009 in Jackson. The state champion will participate in the National Geographic Bee on May 19 � 20 in Washington, D.C. Leslie is the son of Kenneth and Shellie Steadman of Cleveland.

The Bayou Academy Community Service Club took up donations for two weeks to help out with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Each class competed with each other for an overall pizza party and ice cream party.
The winners : K-4 Mrs. Beth Redditt’s class (pizza party), 4th grade Carol Woodruff’s class – ice cream party, and 12th –Kim Bay’s class – ice cream party.
The club raised over $1500.00.

These students were recently inducted into the National Honor Society

These students were inducted into Mu Alpha Theta math honor society.
Alan Crews, Charlsie Haire, Laurie Elizabeth Morgan, and Mary Margaret Roark were chosen as Youths of the Month

The softball team recieved their 2008 State Championship rings on Tuesday. The rings were given to the girls and coaches during a special ceremony.
