5th Grade - Katie Herbison

Spelling

Course Description: Spelling, vocabulary, poetry 5 helps students become excellent spellers by presenting interesting spelling words in weekly theme lists.

Course Objectives: We teach spelling and the meaning of many words. They learn to use words correctly on their spoken and written language. They are also taught spelling rules that will enable students to spell many more words.

Reading

Course Description: This course is dedicated to provide learning materials and instructional strategies that will empower teachers and students to achieve those critically important goals of literacy.

Course Objectives: Phonetic skills, comprehension, and vocabulary skills are taught. Literature, language skills, and study skills are also taught during this class.

Language 

Course Description: This class provides a thorough, systematic presentation of grammar, composition, and mechanics in a clear and appealing manner.

Course Objectives: The students will develop complete and orderly thoughts.

Social Studies - Carol Woodruff

Course Description: This class provides a solid foundation in history, based on the word of God and Christian principles. Students study the story of what man has done with the time God has given.

Course Objectives: Students will learn of the world’s history and geography from a Christian perspective.

Mathematics -

Course Description: It lays the correct foundation for understanding and developing math concepts.

Course Objectives: During this class, students will review and build on the facts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division that allow the students' state of mental development to excel and have immediate practical applications.

Science - Katie Herbison

Course Description: This class is an overview of scientific categories such as geology, meteorology, zoology, botany, etc…

Course objectives: This class puts emphasis on life and earth sciences.

Electives:

Computer - Tammy Little

Course Description: The elementary students come to computer once a week. They play educational games in all areas.

Music -

Course Description: This class teaches musical concepts, skills, and knowledge to elementary students.

Course Objectives: This class encourages learning through music and helps students explore their opportunities in the arts.

 Art - Martha T. McArthur

Course Description- Lessons include line, shape, color, value, texture, and space in addition to sculpture (paper, box, etc.),poster designs, tie-dye, weaving, and hatik.

Course Objective- Art serves as a course in the principle of design- a basic introduction to art.  A variety of tools and techniques are employed.

P.E. - Lauren LaSuzzo

Course Description- The basic physical education involves routine stretches before strenuous physical exercise, a few laps around the gym, and athletic games to open the students to a healthy way of having fun.

Course Objective- Physical education serves as a way for students to learn the importance of exercise while simultaneously utilizing those exercise techniques for their own health and fun.
